St. Blasé, bishop and martyr, is said to have miraculously saved a young boy who nearly died because of a fishbone in his throat. On February 3 we have our throats blessed with crossed candles and hear the words, “Through the intercession of Saint Blasé, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and from every other illness: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
