The Church strongly encourages all its members to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. You might be tempted to wonder why you should go through the hassle of preparing for Confirmation when you are already a member of the Church. The
Catechism teaches, “The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace” (number 1285). Although this isn't a perfect analogy, it is sort of like not moving on from a junior varsity team to the varsity team when you are ready to do so. Confirmation builds on the gifts you have already received, and brings you more closely into God’s ultimate team, the Church.
