As most of you already are aware, on Thursday there was a meeting of school and parish leadership of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and families concerned about the planned closure of the school at the end of the school year. Our Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Dr. RaeNell Houston and Fr. Patrick Carr, Vicar of Finance were also in attendance. The meeting was productive and permission has been granted for the school community to develop a proposal for keeping Our Lady of Perpetual Help School open. The proposal must include viable plans to keep the school open for multiple years, and ideally for future generations. The proposal must be submitted to Fr. Kyle by April 15th.
This is a hopeful sign, but there is much work that needs to be done. I appreciate those that are planning and conducting fundraisers to support our school. Please remember that any monies collected towards the effort to save our school belong to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and should be delivered to the school or parish at the conclusion of each event. At this time, we are inviting anyone with ideas or proposals to keep the school viable to present those ideas to us. I must also encourage you to consider what parishioners, our school families, and community partners can do to encourage our parents to enroll their children in the school. Enrollment is perhaps the single most important element in school sustainability.
I remain grateful to the community for their commitment to our school. I remain grateful to so many who have given their time, talent, and treasure over the year to help our school students be successful while remaining safe. I am grateful to Fr. Kyle and the parish leadership and to Dr. Houston for the opportunity for us to come together and work in an attempt to save our school community.
Those who would like to submit plans or ideas, should send them to [email protected].
In closing, let us remember that no matter the outcome, God is with us! Let us continue to place our trust in his plans for each of us and our families.
