In simplest terms, a Spiritual Communion is an act expressed of the desire to receive the Blessed Sacrament and to receive the effects of the Blessed Sacrament. Many, many saints have endorsed this expression of faith. There are many prayers for Spiritual Communion that you can Google but most of us at OLPH are very familiar with a very powerful one – the Anima Christi. First Communion classes in the past couple of years have even learned the American Sign Language for this prayer. Seeing and using the signs even make the prayer that much more expressive. SOUL of CHRIST (Anima Christi)
Soul of Christ, Sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O Good Jesus, hear me.
Within Thy wounds hide me.
Suffer me not to be separated from thee.
From the malicious enemy defend me.
In the hour of my death call me.
And bid me come to Thee,
That with Thy saints and angels,
I may praise thee forever and ever.
