Dolly Roy, Coordinator of Adult Formation: I was born in Texas, moved to Chalmette at age 3 where I lived next door to the man I later married. I was brought up in the Baptist Church and baptized at age 11. I was married to Darrell Roy, my childhood neighbor, for 26 years before his death in 1999. Our son, Dean, graduated from Jesuit in 2000, moved away to Georgia, graduated from UGA and remained in Georgia for several years before returning to live in New Orleans. He works at WJ Hospital, married the love of his life, Leslie Cox Roy, and is a wonderful father to Deano (age 2) and Andy (age 1). There is another baby coming which Deano thinks is a “SISTA.” Leslie was gracious enough to let Dean fly to Yale every other weekend for two years to get an MBA. I went to schools all over south Louisiana, as many as 3 in one year. I graduated from Belle Chasse H.S., USL--English Education, and Delgado--Associate of Fine Arts. If you are my friend on Facebook, you have seen a lot of my abstract art. I became Catholic in 1989 through the OLPH RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) that I now facilitate. I have worked at OLPH since July 2000. My favorite color is red; favorite movies are The Robe, The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, Jesus of Nazareth, Dr. Zhivago, Forest Gump, and The Green Mile; books—anything by Agatha Christi, Edgar Allen Poe, or Mark Twain. Favorite Bible Verse is John 3:16 that I learned in Vacation Bible School at age 3 or 4, Philippians 4:13, and Psalms 23. One of my favorite television shows when I was very young and watching our first black and white tv was Fulton Sheen. I loved watching him glide round in his “fancy clothes” and thought his talks were wonderful, though my understanding was very limited. I later taught a class about him and learned that a professor told him he would never be a good speaker.
